Aquariums & Bugs

Monday, July 27th, 2009 | 47 Comments

Today we went out in the boat! It was looking like stormy weather so we didn’t go far. Not out to barrier islands. We stayed in the sound instead and anchored at a nice big sand bar! The sun came out & was so intense! I’m quite pink again, hahahaa! It was so quiet & relaxing. A whole little island to ourselves. I didn’t bring my phone so no pics just yet~

Then we came home about 3 hours later because some storm clouds were brewing. Went to Edd’s Drive In for lunch! Looove this place. Really old drive-in with foods that can’t be beat! I got a chili cheese dog & a chocolate malt! It’s the type of place that you just can’t get food that tastes like this any where else!

it’s been around since the 50’s??

Yesterday we drove to the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas & Insectorium in New Orleans! Spent 8 hours there! My legs were so sore but it was fun since I hadn’t been in years. The insect place was brand new. I think my Dad just reaaally wanted to go to gross us girls out! It worked.

a large area containing sharks & sea turtles plus schools of fish

tis me~

there’s this pretty aquarium tunnel at the entrance with fish & sting rays & more!

There’s an amazon forest part too with river fish & birds!

At the insect museum. They had designs made using beetles & other insects. This is a beetle design made using beetles! Gross but cool too~

There was a full 3 section dragon design. This is the head portion!

VooDoo~
Took it as we left New Orleans. I remember visit in 2005 before Katrina/flood damage. The city was never that clean or modern but now it looks like a ghost cracktown. Really, really bad. It’s a shame. This store is refurbished though & thought it went well with the voodoo gumbo chips I posted earlier!

Well I leave home for DC tomorrow. I dunno. It’s been a bit up & down. It has been quiet though & being outdoors with hours to walk barefoot in the grass… Yea I miss that! But I’m finding I miss DC too. I couldn’t believe it but I do! Guess it’s not time for me to retire just yet to a quiet town huh!? Haahaahaa!

Wow, 8 hours at the aquarium? We went to one over the weekend too but we could only spend a few hours there b/c it was so crowded and full of snotty-nosed kids.

Hehe - looks like good fun!

I love just dawdling through my own city/burbs - so relaxing (well, most of the time, until you run into some emo-kid who should be in school and smells like he’s harboring a family of dead ferrets about his person).

Brisbane doesn’t have an official aquarium - but it does have Underwater World - awesome tunnel thingee!

Aw, it looks like you’re having a fantastic time minus the down bits. The insect designs are so nice! I couldn’t tell what they were until I read You’re still young so it’s no surprise that you’re not ready for retirement, haha!

I hate going out on the boat when it’s stormy because I get extra motion sickness!

I hope you enjoyed your vacation and are relaxed for your return home

Ahhh the Aquarium! I want to go to one someday. (I don’t think I’ve ever been to one, not that I can remember of….)

Oh wow, how creative with the insects….but yes, definitely gross. I hate BUGS! I got two moths in my house when I was taking the laundry back into the house and they were clinging on to my clothes but I didn’t notice. T_____T Worse thing is it flew away and I don’t even know WHERE it is in the house so that I can kill it. D: I hope it’s dead by now because I don’t want that thing in my room.

Ah yea, this town is where I grew up and my family still lives here. It’s MUCH smaller than DC & MUCH less interesting. So i guess it’s more like family visit than “vacation” since vacation usually means going somewhere better!

And the aquarium looks awesome. Now I miss going there.

Seems like your having a great time in New Orleans. The insectrium was introduced not too long ago, but I never went because I don’t like insects. I was in New Orleans a week ago and traveling down Canal street still shows signs that things are still not quite right…even though to some people it may look like everything is back to normal.

Looks great! Love the tunnel. v(。・ω・。)

I miss going to the aquarium. (。;_;。) Went last summer to a great one in Ohio, it was really nice because we had really good luck, it wasn’t even crowded. :\(*^▽^*)/

Hope you had a great trip home!

I love going to aquariums! Some fish are so exotic looking, it really stuns me. And those bugs are disgusting and yet so pretty at the same time! I’ve never seen a bug collection like that before, and don’t think I want to, lol

I’d love to go to a place like Edd’s Drive In. There’s this extremely tiny burger place by my school, it’s like a hut, and it’s always crowded. It’s just, I never get a chance to when I want to .. and I always regret it =T

I haven’t been to an aquarium since my middle school graduation trip! That was 3ish years ago.
